Alexander Scholz
As a curator, writer, critic and occasional lecturer, Alexander has had affiliations with institutions of cinematic culture such as Schnitt Film magazine, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Diagonale Film festival Graz, ifs köln - Cologne international film school.
Ever since 2013, he has closely worked with the Duisburger Filmwoche festival, where he started out as a minute-taker, press officer, and copy editor of “AusSichten. Public Speaking about Documentary Film” (2017, with Werner Ružička). He went on to become the editor of protokult.de, the festival's unique archive of film talk minutes. From 2021 onwards, he has been the artistic director of Duisburger Filmwoche.
He earned a PhD in literary theory with a thesis entitled "Lesemodi schriftlicher Äußerlichkeit" (Modes of Reading of Externality in Written Material), which was published by Aisthesis Verlag in March 2024.
This collection is part of the CARTE BLANCHE series, in which the Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf invites filmmakers to select eight favorite films from the filmfriend catalog.
